perhaps it’s missing a comma and is an answer to the question “where?” as in “where did you put the rest of my instrument? All I seem to have is the neck…”

Not when dealing with 16th & 17th century non-standardized English… The album’s full title is ‘Why Not Here – Musicke for Severall Friends.’ ‘Why not here’ is the title as it appears in the original piece by Thomas Ford – http://www.amazon.com/Why-Here-Musicke-Severall-Friends/dp/B0000DKQS6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1363656465&sr=8-1&keywords=Hille+Perl+Lyra+Viol
So, the punctuation is missing on purpose, not a mistake. Does it mess up the joke? No, you have a fabulous site. Always loving to see the viol well-represented as well & Hille Perl is an excellent colleague to boot! :^)
